Watching and Waiting
You continue to grow
Getting stronger and sure
Wanting to get it right
So you can endure
Cold as ice at times
Yet your heart warms through
Life’s struggles are
Still hard on you
Through work and through play
You are in control
Changing your life
Hardening your soul
You say you’re a survivor now
Needing to keep yourself secure
From the pain in the world
Your sanity to insure
Taking charge of your life
Decisions are now your own
Doing what YOU want
Together or alone
Before you make yourself
Too callous and cold
Remember the wonders
HE has made to behold
Friends and family stand firm
To help ease your aching

All that I have loved
All that I hold dear
I have lost
My hopes and dreams are gone
No light can I see
I have lost
My life seems so empty
Except for the pain I feel
I have lost
This feeling is overwhelming
The emptiness so deep
I have lost
All that I love
All that made me who I am

Reading What I Write
I have written many poems
Since that fateful day
Yet for some silly reason
I seem to forget what they say
Helping me feel better
But only as a short quick fix
If I don’t take things to heart
And keep them in the mix
By reading what I write
I can keep things fresh in mind
Keep the demons at bay
And put the pain behind
In writing I have found
Many of my Ahas
But the Devil can take control
When I think of all my flaws
I need to keep on writing
But I need to read as well
To exorcise my demons
And send them back to Hell

Pity Party
Last Night I had me a party
It lasted too long
And wasn’t any fun
It was just plain wrong
The guest list was longer
Than it was supposed to be
Usually this kind of party
Has but one guest, ME
I brought you into the party
Dragging you along
Opening my mouth
Singing my swan song
I was ready to leave
And never come back
Don’t know where I’d go
Don’t really know Jack
I said some things
Better left unsaid
Spent much of the night
Wishing I was dead
Then I typed you the letter
Looking to explain
Raised more anger in you
Caused you more pain
It’s time to move on
Put this behind us
One day we may look back
And wonder what was the fuss
My pity party is now closed!

People are unreasonable, illogical and self-centered
… love them anyway
If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives
… do good anyway
If you are successful, you will with false friends and true enemies
… be successful anyway
The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow
… do good anyway
Honesty and frankness will make you vulnerable
… be honest and frank anyway
People love underdogs but follow top dogs
… follow some underdogs anyway
What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight
… build anyway
People really need help but may attack you if you try to help
… help people anyway
If you give the world the best you have, you may get kicked in the teeth
… but give the world the best you have
… ANYWAY
